Your Hive, Your Control: A Quick Guide to Hive Access
HealthHive puts your privacy first. This guide helps you and your loved ones understand how data access works and why it's important to plan ahead.
Who Can Access Your Hive
You, the Owner, are in charge. You decide who can see your information.
You can name a Co-Owner to help manage your Hive.
You can also give access to trusted people, such as family members or care partners.
If your Hive is connected to a healthcare provider or facility, only the information you choose to share will be visible to them.
If No One’s Available
If you and your Co-Owner are both unavailable and no one else has been set up in advance, your information might not be accessible, even in an emergency. That’s why it’s helpful to plan ahead and choose the right people now.
How Someone Gets Access
People only get access if
- You or your Co-Owner gave them permission or
- They send in official legal documents plus a note from a lawyer or court officer confirming those papers are valid.
HealthHive does not look for documents on its own. Someone must submit them formally to support@healthhive.org.
In an Emergency
If you are unable to speak for yourself and it’s urgent (as deemed by a medical professional), HealthHive may share essential medical information, such as allergies or medications, to help doctors care for you. If this happens, it is recorded, and you are notified.
No Documents and No Emergency
When there are no legal papers and no urgent need, we follow this order to decide who may get access:
- A court-appointed guardian
- Your spouse or partner
- Your adult children or siblings
- Another close family member or trusted friend
That person must prove their identity and relationship to you, explain why they need access, and include a lawyer's confirmation.
What Happens When People Disagree
If two people at the same level request access and disagree, HealthHive will wait for a court decision before granting access.
Respecting State Laws
HealthHive follows national privacy rules and also respects state laws about who can act on your behalf. We accept legal documents from other states when a lawyer confirms that they comply with local rules.
Our Promise to You
You decide who can access your Hive. We only act on valid requests. Every access is logged and communicated. In emergencies, only essential information may be shared with care and respect.
Planning ahead helps protect your privacy and ensures that care continues when it matters most.
